Amazon Keyword Tracker

Check where an ASIN sits in the organic results for up to 20 keywords at once, with the movement since the last check beside each one. Parent listings are expanded automatically, so the position reported is the variation Amazon actually ranks, and any keyword it does not rank for is checked for indexation.

Why track your own keyword positions

Advertising can buy a placement today and lose it the moment the budget stops. Organic position is the part you keep, and it is the only honest measure of whether the listing work, the reviews and the campaigns are compounding into anything. Tracking a set of keywords together also answers a question a single check cannot: whether the product is drifting on all of them at once, which points at the listing or the account, or on one, which usually points at a competitor.

What it cannot see

Search Query Volume is UNITIX Agency's own measure, built on Amazon's published data. A blank means Amazon publishes nothing for that query, not that nobody searches it. Click and purchase share appear only where Amazon names this product among the three most clicked for the phrase, which is a small group by design. The movement line starts from the first check: a phrase nobody has checked before has a position and no history yet.

Why a keyword position moves

Rank is not a setting. Amazon works out where a product belongs from sales and conversion against that specific query, so a position is a consequence of what happened last week rather than something you can edit. That is why a drop is worth diagnosing rather than reacting to.

Six things account for most movement, and they leave different traces. A price change, yours or a competitor's, shows up in price history and usually moves rank within days. A stock-out is the harshest: rank decays quickly and comes back slowly, long after the inventory has landed. A new competitor buying aggressively takes clicks from the same page, so your position falls while your own numbers look unchanged. Slowing reviews or a falling rating hit conversion, which hits rank a little later. Cutting advertising removes the sales those campaigns were feeding into the organic signal. And a listing edit, particularly to the title or backend terms, can cost relevance for the exact phrase you were ranking on.

Seasonality moves everything at once, which is the easiest case to mistake for a problem. The way to tell them apart is to check two or three competitors on the same keyword: if they moved with you, the query changed rather than your listing.

Reading the example on this page

The sample under the form is a real check on a garlic press family with seven variations, and it reads as a story rather than three numbers.

First, one child carries the whole family. The same variation ranks on all three keywords, which means the sales history that earns those positions sits on one ASIN. That is worth knowing before you change which variation shows first or how the family is priced.

Second, the strongest position is not the most valuable one. Position 1 sits on the narrower phrase, while the broad money term returns a similar number of competing products and the product is fourth there. The gap between first and fourth on a head term is a large share of the clicks, so that one position is worth more work than defending the term already won.

Third, the modifier keyword sits on the second page. That is usually the cheapest ground to take: relevance on a longer, more specific phrase is easier to earn than on the head term, and buyers who search it are further along in deciding.

The figures move, so treat the shape as the lesson rather than the numbers.

Keyword Tracker questions

How do I check my Amazon keyword ranking?

Enter the ASIN and up to twenty keywords, one per line, and pick how deep to look. It checks the top 100 by default, which is what the inspector checks; a ranked keyword costs the same at any depth, because pages are read only until the product is found. Each keyword is checked against your ASIN and every child variation under it, and the position comes back with the variation that matched.

Which keywords should I track?

The ones your product already earns clicks on, and the ones you are working towards. After a check the tracker lists phrases Amazon names this product among the three most clicked for that were not in your list, with the searches behind each, and one click adds them. That list comes from Amazon's Brand Analytics data rather than from a keyword generator, so it is what shoppers actually clicked rather than what a phrase looks like.

What if my product is a parent with variations?

Paste the parent. The tracker expands it and reports which child ranks, which is often the more useful answer: a family can rank with different variations on different keywords, and that decides which one to push.

How deep does the check go?

The top 100 unless you choose otherwise, and up to 300 if you do. Anything below the depth you picked is reported as not found rather than guessed at, because a position nobody scrolls to is not a position worth a number. Depth is close to free on a phrase the product ranks for: pages are read only until it is found.

Why did my Amazon keyword ranking drop?

Usually one of six things: a price change on your listing or a competitor's, a stock-out, a new competitor buying the same page, slowing reviews or a falling rating, an advertising change that removed the sales feeding the organic signal, or a listing edit that cost relevance for that phrase. Check two or three competitors on the same keyword first. If they fell too, the query changed rather than your listing.

What is Search Frequency Rank?

Amazon's numeric rank of a search term's popularity against every other search term in the same period. Rank 1 is the most searched term of the period, rank 2 the next, and so on. It is Amazon's own figure, shown as published.

What is Search Query Volume?

The number of times this query was searched during the selected time period. Here that period is the last full calendar month. Where Amazon publishes the count for a query, that count is what you see; for the rest it is UNITIX Agency's own measure.

What does "3 products take 39.4% of its clicks" mean?

It is about clicks, not about positions. Amazon names the three products shoppers click most for a phrase, and this adds their shares: on that phrase those three take 39.4% of everything clicked, and the remaining 60.6% is spread across every other product in the results. The number says how closed a phrase is. Above half, three products own the query and a new listing has to take clicks from a specific competitor rather than simply appear. Around a tenth, attention is spread thin and ranking is enough to earn some of it. The same rank means different things on those two phrases.

Does the tracker remember my previous checks?

Yes, and that is what turns a position into news. Every check keeps the position it found, and the next check on the same phrase shows the movement beside the number: "#7, was #12 on 8 August". Only a reading from an earlier day counts, because two checks in one afternoon describe the same position. A phrase falling out of the top 100 is kept as a reading too, so a product that dropped does not look like one nobody checked. Nothing about you is stored: the file holds the ASIN, the phrase, the position and the date, and no visitor, session or address.

How often should I check rankings?

Positions move daily, so a single reading is noise. Weekly, at roughly the same time and on the same weekday, is enough to see a direction, and a check the day after any deliberate change tells you whether that change did anything. The tracker keeps each reading, so the movement is waiting for you on the next check rather than in a spreadsheet you have to maintain.

Does Amazon advertising improve organic rank?

Indirectly and with no guarantee. Advertising buys impressions, and organic position follows sales and conversion against the query. Ads can start that cycle on a term where the listing already converts, and they cannot rescue a term where it does not: spending more on a phrase that buyers do not act on will not rank it.
